Sopot’s New Year’s Village

From December 28 to January 6, you will be able to visit Sopot’s New Year’s Village, an open-air Christmas-style market, this year found in a new and interesting setting.

Kicking things off, on Friday December 6, Plac Przyjaciół Sopotu (Friends of Sopot Square) will be lit with a new Christmas illumination and you will find a beautiful Christmas tree, a light fountain, a sleigh with reindeers in which everyone will be able to sit, and the lights surrounding the square will be decorated in the form of three-dimensional lilies.

The centre of Plac Przyjaciół Sopotu will be occupied by a historic Venetian carousel, which from December 18 will carry children for free.

The village will open its doors on December 28 at 17.00 with a carnival parade, led by stilt walkers in retro costumes.

The culmination of the opening will be the New Year’s meeting of the President of Sopot, Jacek Karnowski, with the residents and guests where there will be Christmas and New Year’s wishes and the offering of a New Year’s cake with warm tea and sweets for children.

The family friendly atmosphere of the Sopot New Year’s Village will be accompanied by Christmas music. Each evening, from 18.00 to 21.00, you will have the opportunity to listen to live music performed by a DJ and accompanying musicians playing saxophone, cello and drums.

The market’s seasonally decorated huts will offer, great Christmas delicacies, souvenirs and increasingly popular eco products. To help you warm up there will be aromatic tea, mulled wine and various tinctures, while snacks and drinks can be enjoyed in the cosy dining areas equipped with heaters and comfortable furniture.

It will also be possible to enjoy your Christmas drink from a specially designed ceramic collector’s mug. In keeping with the city’s eco-friendly policies, there will be no plastic disposable dishes, straws or cutlery at the fair.

On December 29-30, from 16.00 to 17.00 families with children, in particular, are invited to enjoy performances by jugglers and clowns, as well as take part in family workshops where you can play various instruments. Also on these days from 17.00 to 18.30, stilt walkers will encourage passers-by to take part in the carnival parade.

On New Year’s Eve the town will prepare a family New Year’s Eve for families with children under the slogan ‘Come in carnival masks and costumes’. The fun will last from 16.00 to 17.30. Then from 18.00 there will be the Sopot New Year’s Eve chillout with DJs. At midnight the bells will sound marking the new year and welcoming in 2020.

The city of Sopot invites you to visit the New Year’s Village until it closes on January 6. Let’s spend this time in the wonderfully atmospheric Sopot New Year’s Village!
