Piano and Opera on the Water – a unique open-air concert on the pier in Sopot
We invite you to an extraordinary open-air event, PIANO AND OPERA ON THE WATER – an artistic journey unlike anything ever experienced at Sopot’s marina on the pier.
Can you imagine the sound of classical opera gently carried across the surface of the sea, blending with the sound of the waves and the echoes of the city? A moment when the noise of the streets, the constant buzz of stimuli, and the rush of everyday life suddenly give way to absolute harmony?
When Music Silences the Noise of the World
We return to the very source and foundation of opera – the Myth of Orpheus. In classical mythology, the singing of Orpheus and the sound of his lyre possessed extraordinary power: they could calm a raging sea, reconcile the elements, and bring peace where chaos prevailed. It was this fascination with the mythical power of the human voice that gave birth to opera at the turn of the 16th and 17th centuries.
We bring this beautiful archetype to life in the heart of Sopot Marina. At the very end of the pier, where the vibrant city meets the vastness of the sea, we will create a space for true stillness and contemplation. As singing and piano music fill the air above the sea, art will once again give us something truly precious: a deep sense of inner peace and a profound appreciation of the present moment.
Event Program
The event will begin with an extraordinary soundscape. Through the speakers, the sounds of urban bustle, conversations, and the fast-paced world around us will blend together. Yet the moment an operatic voice is heard from the deck of a yacht, the city noise will completely fade away. The magnificent voice of opera will merge with the sound of the sea, gently leading us into a state of calm and inner stillness.
Live Opera Singing: an outstanding performance by countertenor Jakub Borowczyk, a scholarship recipient of the Polish Minister of Culture and National Heritage and a soloist collaborating with the Polish Royal Opera. The programme will include, among other works, Orpheus’ most famous aria, “Che farò senza Euridice?” from Christoph Willibald Gluck’s opera Orfeo ed Euridice. His unique voice, carried across the waves, will become a living embodiment of the myth of the power of music.
PIANO WAVES: the duo Tomasz Szwelnik & Dominik Kisiel will present their original, deeply emotional piano improvisations. The sound of live instruments and electronics will intertwine with samples of opera singing taken from vintage vinyl records, bringing the evening to a cohesive and magical close.
When? The event will take place during the week of 21–25 September 2026. Follow the event HERE for the exact date and time.
