The stone form embedded in the greenery seems to perfectly reflect the title of the work: “Close to Nature”. A compact shape with a strong structure resembles a tangle of rounded, tightly joined shapes. Its surface is smooth and polished, and the entire composition gives the impression of softness, corporeality and organicity. The author of the work is Teresa Klaman, a sculptor who draws inspiration from observing nature and the stone that is part of it.
Teresa Klaman was born in 1948 in Gdańsk. In 1972, she obtained a diploma at the Faculty of Sculpture of the State Higher School of Fine Arts in Gdańsk. From 1973 to September 2019, she was a teaching employee at her alma mater. The artist creates parallel works in sculpture and ceramics, and also draws. Teresa Klaman’s work includes threads of urban spaces and imaginary architecture, present in the series “Metropolis”, “Neighborly” and “Siedliska”. Another important series is “Women”, recorded both in ceramics and stone.
She participated in numerous symposia and open-air ceramic and sculpture workshops. Twice scholarship holder of the Ministry of Culture and Art, the Finnish government and the Foundation for Polish-German Cooperation. Winner of awards and distinctions. Her works can be found in the collections of museums and galleries of contemporary art in Gdańsk, Szczecin, Berlin, Nuremberg, as well as in the open air of the Wigry National Park, parks: Grunwald near Munich, Düsseldorf, Bickenbach near Darmstadt, Sopot and Vienna.
