Eve & Adam – Relaxation

The sculptural composition “Eve&Adam – Relaxation” depicts two semi-recumbent figures carved in granite with slightly abstract shapes, shown at rest. The title refers to the biblical Eve and Adam from the Garden of Eden. This work by Emilia Kaus won first prize in a competition for a sculpture for Sopot in 1979. The following year it was sited in South Park, and later moved to North Park.

Emilia Kaus graduated from the State Higher School of Fine Arts in Gdańsk in 1972. From 1969-72 she was a co-founder and actress of the “ą” experimental student theatre in Gdańsk. A two-time scholarship holder of the Ministry of Culture and Art. Her numerous sculptural works are in private collections around the world and in public spaces in Poland and Germany. She participated in land art projects. In addition to sculpture, Emilia Kaus’ interests include drawing, traditional but also innovative, using different techniques, including digital ones. The sculptor is associated with two cities: Gdynia and Bremen in Germany.
