Generation

Pink granite became the material for Generation, a sculpture by Ewa Beyer-Formela. It was created at the end of the 1970s in Wdzydze Kiszewskie at an open-air sculpture workshop. In a large boulder, the sculptor isolated shapes that can be construed as two joined human silhouettes. The larger of them seems to „pass on” the baggage of experience to the smaller one.

Ewa Beyer-Formela was born in 1935 in Kartuzy. She has repeatedly emphasised the influence of growing up in Kashubia on her later artistic choices. The artist was particularly close to nature, an inexhaustible source of inspiration for her. In 1960, she defended her diploma Professor Stanisław Horno-Popławski at the State
Higher School of Fine Arts in Gdańsk. She participated in the post-war reconstruction of Gdańsk. She created outdoor and intimate sculptures in granite, marble, wood, metal and ceramics. Ewa Beyer-Formela also had an interest in drawing, watercolour and pastels. The Sopot-based artist died in 2022.
