Masks

Form and fabric are two equally important aspects of sculpture for Tony Cragg. Masks is a piece made of bronze that invokes industrial compression of the material, emphasizing the fluid shape of the sculpture itself. It makes for a giant sensuous stack, formed by rounded layers of material, evocative of both classical and contemporary forms.

The State Art Gallery in Sopot exhibition showcases three types of Cragg’s works. The gallery interior is host to his sculptures and installations made of glass, along with the accompanying drawings and watercolors. On the other hand, the Northern Park in Sopot features Tony Cragg’s iconic sculptures: Points of View, Mixed Feelings, as well as Versus and Masks—all made of bronze and stainless steel—whose form oscillates between abstract and figurative sculpture, dazzling with dynamic meandering shapes.

Tony Cragg, one of best-known English artists. For more than 4 decades, he has relentlessly pursued new relationships between people and the physical world. He is a master of the material, freely using its different types such as stone, bronze, wood, metal, synthetic materials, and glass. In his sculptures, a propensity for experimentation is matched with unfailing perfection.

The exhibition of sculptures and drawings in Sopot is co-organized with the Tony Cragg Studio. It is held under the auspices of the British Council, the patronage of the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany, and the British Embassy, with the support of Hestia’s Artistic Journey and ERGO Hestia.
