28th JANUSZ SIDŁO GRAND PRIX
Would you like to experience top-level sporting competition? Join us on June 14 at the Forest Stadium in Sopot. Come and see world-class athletics stars up close!
This may be the only opportunity to watch, live in the Tricity area, World Indoor Champion in the 60m hurdles, Jakub Szymański, in competition.
Aleksandra Formella (SKLA Sopot) will compete in the 400m race. There is a possibility that she will support the Polish women’s 4x400m relay team at the European Championships in Birmingham. However, this season our World Indoor silver medallist is aiming to achieve the individual qualifying standard over twice that distance – the 800m.
A total of 15 events will be held at Sopot’s Forest Stadium, including the women’s 800m race, staged as the “Elżbieta Duńska-Krzesińska Amber Mile.”
As tradition dictates, the javelin throw competition, commemorating the meeting’s patron, will once again be one of the highlights of the event.
Janusz Sidło represented the Sopot club, which competed under the name Spójnia Gdańsk during his athletic career. Known by the nickname “Łokietek,” he won the Olympic silver medal in Melbourne in 1956 and twice stood on the top step of the European Championships podium.
There will be plenty of excitement in the senior athletics competitions, but the younger athletes are also expected to deliver thrilling performances on the track. As part of the Pomeranian Olympic Hopes programme, the most talented under-16 athletes from across the region will showcase their skills to the audience.
