Sea Planet Meeting Series | Growth | November 27, 2025

The penultimate meeting in the Sea Planet series will be held under the theme GROWTH. The title refers to the concept of seas and oceans viewed as ecosystems-organisms.

This idea resonates in the exhibition Down Deep: Living Seas, Living Bodies, currently on view at the State Gallery of Art. In what aspects is the growth of seas and oceans possible? What directions might it take if further economic growth – in line with the idea of degrowth – is slowed?

The discussion will be led by artist Linda Lemon and Professor Magdalena Bełdowska, a scientist from the Faculty of Oceanography and Geography of the University of Gdańsk.

Practical information:

When? November 27, 2025 | Thursday, 6:00 PM

Where? State Gallery of Art, Plac Zdrojowy 2, Sopot

Free admission

Movement, breathing, growth, and sensation are among the fundamental characteristics of living organisms. In this perspective, the organism is the sea, the community of all the organisms that inhabit it, creating a living, aquatic body. Scientists from the Institute of Oceanography of the Polish Academy of Sciences, artists, and people representing other fields of science will confront this interpretation.
Partners: Institute of Oceanography of the Polish Academy of Sciences Sopot, University of Gdańsk

The next and final meeting of the autumn Sea Planet series: December | December 11, 2025 | Thursday, 6:00 PM

You are cordially invited!
