The historic sign "Molo" will return to the gate of the Sopot Pier

The Sopot Pier will gain a new identifying element. The existing yellow inscription above the entrance gate will be replaced with a neon sign inspired by a design from the 1950s and 1960s. At the same time, the renovation of the historic gate is planned.

The project called "Renovation of the gate and restoration of the "Molo" neon sign over the historic entrance to the Pier area" was selected in the Sopot Civic Budget for 2026. As part of the project, the entrance gate to the Pier area will be renovated, and an inscription in the form of a neon sign above it, designed in the 1950s and 1960s, which was visible in this place earlier. The neon's form refers to sea waves.

The yellow inscription currently decorating the Pier gate will be dismantled and if it is in good condition after dismantling, we may see it in some other place. – We are waiting for ideas and inspirations. Maybe one of you or one of the local artists will propose a new form of displaying this inscription to give it a "second life", so that it does not disappear from the city space completely - encourages Magdalena Czarzyńska-Jachim, the mayor of Sopot. – Please send these ideas to promocja@sopot.pl.

Renovation works on the former entrance gate to the Pier will include, among others: cleaning of secondary plastering and painting layers, filling in gaps, cleaning the wall face, applying a new plastering on the relic of the non-existent casino building and replacing the lighting. All works will be carried out under the supervision of a conservator.

The former gate with the inscription above it is a historic building and a remnant of the former foundation of the Mola complex. Since the entrance gates were moved to the beginning of the wooden part and entry to Kuracyjny Square is free, the gate has only a symbolic function.
