Energa Trefl Sopot wins the Polish Cup
Energa Trefl Sopot won the Polish Cup for the eighth time in its history. In the final held at Arena Sosnowiec, the Sopot team defeated Zastal Zielona Góra 91:67, confirming their dominance and winning the first trophy of the season. For the yellow and black team, this is another important chapter in the club's history and a strong signal before the decisive part of the league games. The tournament MVP award went to Paul Scruggs. The Sopot team will play their next match on March 6 at 20:15 in Gliwice with GTK.
The Sopot team started the match a little better and had a five-point advantage after goals by Kasper Suurorg and Paul Scruggs. However, Jayvon Maughmer kept the rivals extremely close. Mindaugas Kacinas was again an important player, and Orlen Zastal could not fully get going in attack. After 10 minutes it was 21:16. The Zielona Góra team started the second quarter with a small series 0:6 and thanks to Krzysztof Sulima's play they took the lead. Energa Trefl quickly responded with six points in a row, and Szymon Zapała did very well. Mikołaj Witliński also joined the attack - in turn, thanks to a three-pointer by Mindaugas Kacinas, the difference increased to 10 points. Ultimately, the first half ended with the score 46:37. After the break, coach Mikko Larkas' team maintained the advantage. Kasper Suurorg did very well, and after Paul Scruggs' three-pointer the difference increased to 14 points. Conley Garrison and Andrzej Mazurczak were unable to realistically make up for these losses with individual shares. After 30 minutes it was 62:49. The next part of the match didn't change much. Kenny Goins joined the attack and Kacinas was still great. The Zielona Góra team responded with Jayvon Maughmer's three-pointers, but it still wasn't enough.
Ultimately, Energa Trefl won 91:67 and took over Pekao S.A. Polish Cup!
Congratulations to the entire team and coaching staff!
